The SEO score measures how well technical aspects of your site are using search engine optimization and organic traffic. Four categories make up the score: technical, content, user experiences, and mobile. Each subcategory gets scored. These scores help determine how well they do online. Checking out your content online is important from time to time. Reviewing your presence online helps you know whether people are seeing or experiencing what you hope they will when they engage with your content. Once you know how to score your own SEO, you can take just a few minutes to fix any gaps to make it more user-friendly.

Master the Domain

Domain authority (DA) is a score given to your site. Out of 100, your site will be scored based on things like age, SEO, and link backs. The DA is important for getting a site scored properly. Start by visiting Open Site Explorer, type in the URL, and click “search.” The number in the upper left corner of the screen is the domain authority. The closer to 100 the site ranks, the better. Anything less than 30 is designated as fair, decent, or poor and may need some work to build a stronger presence online.

Check the Load

If load time is too long, people will browse away somewhere else. Google ranks a site highly that has a good load time. Slow sites are more likely to have poor SEO. Check out Pingdom, type in the URL, and click ‘test now.’ Once site performance and load time are analyzed, you’ll have a better idea of what your site is doing. A slow site speed indicates SEO may need improvement, so be wary of site speeds of 4 seconds or more that are slowing things down.

Go Meta

If you want to know whether your site has the meta components it needs in place, you can check your homepage and view the source code. Use the keyboard shortcut in Chrome for Mac Command + Option + U. You should be able to use ‘tools’ or ‘view’ menu to view the source if your  browser allows. Use the source code <title> tag. Search the source code for a meta description. There are two main meta tags that are helpful on a site. SEO should include meta tags to make a site better, even if Google does not use them for ranking.

Check Content

Updated content needs to be on a website to rank well. Old content does not rank as well as newer content. Sustained SEO requires consistent content uploaded to stay relevant. To track the score on your content is crucial to knowing whether your content is interesting enough, relevant, and drawing people into your website. Good content marketing is going to give you more, even if you must check it now and again to be sure it is working for you.
